The School Safety Grant Program

The School Safety Grant Program (SSGP) is established in Education Article §5-317 and is intended to provide grants to address the need for school security improvements.

FY 2022, FY 2023, and FY 2024 School Safety Grant Program

The School Safety Grant Program will be managed by the Maryland Center for School Safety in collaboration with the IAC.

FY 2021 School Safety Grant Program

On July 8, 2021, the IAC approved the release of FY 2021 School Safety Grant Program funding, with allocations to 24 LEAs and the Maryland School for the Blind totaling $10 million. Each LEA’s distribution is based upon a combination of their proportion of total 2019 enrollment and their proportion of total facility square footage.

FY 2019 Round II SSGP

On March 21, 2019, the IAC approved release of the 2nd round of funding for the SSGP, with allocations totaling $10 million. Each LEA’s distribution was based upon a combination of their proportion of total enrollment and their proportion of total facility square footage, consistent with allocations in the 1st round. However, in the 2nd round the IAC did not apply the State and local cost share formula and put in place a minimum potential State allocation of $200,000 for each LEA.

FY 2019 Round I SSGP

On August 30, 2018, the IAC directed IAC staff to release applications for SSGP projects from each LEA and the Maryland School for the Blind with a total maximum allocation of $10 million. Each LEA’s distribution was based on a combination of their proportion of total enrollment and their proportion of total facility square footage.
